Remote work is everywhere, but trust can be a challenge. Some organizations use fake profiles, and we’ve all seen videos of people pretending to work remotely. So, how can companies make sure remote workers are actually working?
When Hiring:
- Online presence: A professional digital footprint can tell you a lot.
- Portfolio: Does their work speak for itself?
- Achievements and certificates: To back up their experience.
Here’s What to Look For:
- Results: Are they delivering on time and getting the job done?
- Calls: Do they join video calls and participate?
- Proactivity: Are they taking initiative and solving problems?
- Collaboration: Are they helping the team and engaging with others?
- Responsiveness: Do they reply promptly to messages?
- Care: Do they show interest in the project’s success?
Focus on these, and it’s easier to trust that your remote team is doing their part!
PS – Story:
I was also contacted yesterday by an individual who wanted me to participate in tricking companies (that’s why I wrote this blog post). This kind of request has happened at least a dozen times.
So what are they asking?
Yesterday, I was asked to interview for USA jobs and work for the first two weeks. Then, some other devs from their side will take over from me, and if the organization doesn’t catch on, I will get paid.
A few months ago, it was kind of the same story: I got the job, but somebody would do the actual work from X country.
A year ago, somebody wanted to pay me monthly to create a profile in my name on a freelancer platform.
Of course, I refuse all of these. I will never compromise my name or brand, and I don’t want to trick companies. That is not me. I think that is bad. I won’t say I’m good at X if I’m not. I want to empower companies and businesses. My only way is through honesty and high-quality work. That will pay off in the long run.
